My son Zack bagged a 4x6 mule deer this morning. It was his first buck, and quite a decent sized one. I don't know who is prouder, Zack or his father! I have to say Zack was a real trooper, he works until 1am, comes home, goes to bed, gets up to go out hunting at 4:30am, hunts until 11am and then has to be back at work by 4pm. I don't know what he's happier about, getting a bigger buck than his dad, or being able to sleep in from now on.
The neighbors are used to us bringing home big game and hanging it in the garage. Being part of a big hunting community, the children flock over to point and giggle while the grown-ups trade stories. Today the little girl from down the street and her younger sister showed up for the first time. They were followed by their cat Toonces, who is no stranger to our yard, which it sees as a huge community litter box. Thinking the cat wanted a closer look at the buck which was in the process of being skinned, the little neighbor girl scooped the cat up and held it closer. The cat caught sight of the buck and absolutely freaked out! I don't think that cat will be squatting in my yard ever again!

Great shot! (Pun intended) What does it mean that it is a 4 x 6 mule deer? I'm a city gal.

Wow...rite of manhood? Oh, my hubby is going to go hunting for the first time in Michigan mid November....boy, do I want deer meat? What does it taste like and how do you cook it? OMG he's so excited and I'm shaking my head....Sandi
Don't know how you cook yours, Jody, but I fixed mine the same way I fix my beef, except I tenderized it really well and rubbed it in garlic powder to where the wild taste was not so strong. I loved it. Congrats to Zack and I hope too, that you get your elk.
Blessings!~

Great rack! So funny about the cat. Paula
That is an awesome rack on the deer! We only have white tail here in Illinois, Jim has been sitting in quite a few tree stands himself this time of year, while I sit at home secretly wishing he does not get a bigger buck then the ones he bow shot last season! I mean how many deer heads does one man need on his family room wall right??? lol Jim also eats what he kills...he doesn't believe in useless kills either...I will cook dear meat, but I aint touching it or eating it!In fact we had a huge wild game cookout at the lake last weekend.....venison, goose and duck, I will be cooking a buffalo roast for the first time this winter too!
I love the name Toounces...from the old Saturday Night Live skit, I presume??
